28 сентября 1944 г. Началась Белградская операция войск 3-го Украинского фронта (Маршал Советского Союза Ф. И. Толбухин), Народно-освободительной армии Югославии и войск Болгарии. В ходе операции, завершившейся 20 октября, освобождена столица Югославии Белград и разгромлена немецкая группа армий «Ф».
