11 октября 1984 в открытый космос вышла первая американка - астронавт — Кэтрин Салливэн (Kathryn Dwyer «Kathy» Sullivan) (полёт STS-41G на космическом корабле «Челленджер»).

это ещё был первый полёт 7 человек на одном КК.
первый полёт двух женщин одновременно.
