28 ноября 1973 в районе Тбилиси капитан Геннадий ЕЛИСЕЕВ на самолете МиГ-21 таранил нарушителя - самолет ВВС Ирана. Это был первый таран в истории сверхзвуковой авиации. При столкновении советский летчик погиб. Капитану Елисееву посмерно было присвоено звание Героя Советского Союза.
