13 марта 1900 г. При проведении работ по снятию с мели броненосца «Генерал-адмирал Апраксин» лейтенант В. А. Канин с о. Гогланд передал на расстояние 30 миль, а лейтенант А. А. Реммерт принял первую депешу по беспроволочному телеграфу конструкции А. С. Попова—первое в мире практическое применение радио.
