The United States Army accepted the delivery of the Wright Military Flyer as "Army Aeroplane Number 1", and hired Wilbur and Orville Wright to train the first two pilots in operation of the machine. Lts. Frank P. Lahm and Frederic E. Humphreys began instruction in October.[
