14 августа 1900 объединенные войска восьми держав (Британии, России, Франции , Германии, США, Японии, Италии и Австро-Венгрии) вошли в Пекин, где посольства этих стран были осаждены участниками "боксерского восстания", а посол Германии и секретарь японского посольства - убиты ими.
